  1. P-38 GROUND ATTACK TRAINING
  2.  
  3. In every theater of World War II, the 
  4. Lightning proved itself to be an excellent 
  5. ground attack/support aircraft.  The P-38's 
  6. two Allison engines provided pilots with a 
  7. greater degree of protection against 
  8. being shot down during dangerous low 
  9. altitude operations, in contrast to the 
  10. single-engine P-51 Mustang.  The P-38 
  11. also had a phenomenal ordnance capacity, 
  12. with the H model able to carry 4,000 lbs. of 
  13. bombs (the same bombload weight 
  14. typically carried by the B-17!).

  16.                     YOUR MISSION
  17.  
  18. Your P-38J is lined up for a low level 
  19. bombing and strafing run on the Deinze 
  20. V2 Missile Site.  As you approach the 
  21. installation, a V2 is being prepared for 
  22. launch.  Use your guns to destroy the V2 
  23. before it launches, and then bomb the 
  24. various structures on the ground there.

  26. Watch for Luftwaffe aircraft on patrol in 
  27. the area, and engage them if necessary.
  28.  
  29. Your P-38J has unlimited ammunition 
  30. (including bombs).
  31.  
  32. Your mission will not end automatically.  
  33. You must choose to quit.  Please see your 
  34. reference guide for instruction on how to 
  35. quit, as well as information on other 
  36. controls.
